Report: Further insight on Middlesbrough summer transfer plans after sealing Aidan Morris capture

An insight into Middlesbrough’s transfer plans for the remainder of the 2024 summer transfer window has been provided.

Middlesbrough are preparing for the forthcoming campaign, with the club active on and off the pitch.

Boro’s first-team squad returned to the club on June 24th as they gear up for their 2024 pre-season tour, which begins on July 20th versus Bolton Wanderers.

Behind the scenes, meanwhile, Steve Gibson has been backing manager Michael Carrick heavily on the transfer front so far.

The Teessiders have signed Luke Ayling on a free transfer after he impressed on loan from Leeds United in the second half of 2023/24.

Boro then made a move for winger Delano Burgzorg, who joined the club from German outfit Mainz 05.

Then, on June 28th, Middlesbrough confirmed they had completed a move for Columbus Crew and USA international, Aidan Morris.

The 22-year-old is expected to strengthen Carrick’s midfield, with a talkSPORT pundit backing him to be ‘very good’ for Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough want striker and will monitor market

Now, after Morris’ move was officially confirmed this week, an insight into Boro’s plans for the remainder of the window has been provided by Teesside Live.

The Middlesbrough-based outlet reports that Boro’s fourth priority for the summer window is to sign a striker.

Emmanuel Latte Lath led the line for the Reds last term, being backed up by 21-year-old Josh Coburn.

However, injuries to both players in 2023/24 has led to Boro believing they should look to further strengthen the number nine position.

Outside of a striker, Teesside Live claim Middlesbrough will continue to monitor the market and remain open to the possibility of strengthening further if the right deal presents itself.

Early transfer business should boost Boro’s promotion chances

Middlesbrough’s early activity in the 2024 summer transfer window should boost their chances of promotion in the forthcoming campaign.

The Championship outfit finished fourth in the division in 2022/23 but a large overturn in the squad last summer hampered the club in 2023/24.

Several key names like Chuba Akpom and Ryan Giles departed the Riverside, leaving Carrick and co. scrambling to plug the holes in their squad.

Middlesbrough did a decent job of this, but the influx of new players greatly impacted their displays early in the season.

So far this summer, though, Boro have maintained all of their best players from last term.

They have also brought new players in early, giving them plenty of time to settle in, meaning a proper promotion push looks likely this time around.
