Aston Villa player blasted as 'disrespectful' after 'out of order' thing he's done off the pitch

An Aston Villa player has been accused of being ‘very disrespectful’ amid continued speculation on his future.

Aston Villa look to have successfully negotiated the 30th June Premier League PSR deadline with the sales of Tim Iroegbunam, Omari Kellyman and Douglas Luiz.

Despite Unai Emery overseeing a remarkable campaign in which Villa secured Champions League qualification, an injection of cash was needed to avoid breaching Premier League spending rules.

The money associated with the sales of Iroegbunam, Kellyman and Luiz helped them achieve that, but it may not be the end of the departures this summer.

Striker Jhon Duran has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the Stamford Bridge club initially expressed interest in January and the 20-year-old has been blasted for the way he has acted amid the speculation.

Jhon Duran accused of adding ‘fuel’ to talk of Aston Villa exit

Villa rejected Chelsea’s advances in January as a sale would have left them with Ollie Watkins as the only senior striker at the club.

Duran did have a telling contribution prior to the end of the season, his two goals off the bench securing a remarkable comeback to draw 3-3 with Liverpool in the final home game of the season.

However, speculation around the forward’s future has continued with talks of a £40 million move to Chelsea this summer continuing to rumble on.

Aston Villa reporter John Townley has now been talking about the situation on the latest episode of the Claret & Blue podcast, where he lamented the striker’s behaviour.

Townley said: “”Him liking Tweets about Chelsea, that’s very disrespectful. That’s out of order. Why are you doing that? Don’t do that.

“Even if you were to support Chelsea, be professional about it, don’t do it to try and fuel a transfer.

“He’s a very talented player and a player who one day could become something incredibly good and hopefully one day he thinks ‘I shouldn’t have done that when I was at Villa when I was 20’.

“Even stuff like the Juan Pablo Angel thing [fellow Colombian], welcoming him to Villa, obviously we’ve been very welcoming to Duran and as far as I know there’s no issues there, yet he’s chosen to be disrespectful in terms of liking posts on ‘X’ about Chelsea and doing other things that shouldn’t happen if you’re a professional footballer.”

Villa only signed Duran in January 2023, paying MLS side Columbus Crew £18 million for his services.

A powerful striker with a sledgehammer of a left-foot, Duran clearly has a lot of potential but he is far from the finished article and is currently very raw.

With Villa having Champions League football they are going to need to provide Watkins with support carrying the goalscoring burden and Duran is unlikely to be that.

Therefore, Villa may be wise to bank the £40 million Chelsea are willing to spend on Duran and reinvest the funds on a ready-made striker who can compete at the top level.

Given Duran’s behaviour and obvious desire to leave the club for Chelsea, a move may just be best for all parties.
