Journalist claims West Ham have set their sights on 'unbelievable' Arsenal forward, could cost less than £50m

West Ham United and Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front over the coming weeks as they look to bolster their respective squads.

The Hammers are already up and running in the window, signing Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the Gunners haven’t got a signing on board just yet, but they’ve been linked with many top talents.

Arsenal are likely to be busy in terms of outgoings as well as incomings, with numerous Gunners players seeming surplus to requirements.

Now, Arsenal-leaning journalist Charles Watts has provided an update about a Hale End graduate who looks likely to leave, with West Ham said to be among his suitors.

Charles Watts says West Ham are among Eddie Nketiah suitors

The player in question is Eddie Nketiah, who has been a decent option for Mikel Arteta in recent years but could well seek regular first-team football elsewhere.

Watts, writing on CaughtOffside, believes selling Nketiah will make Arsenal ‘good money’, although he’s sceptical about a reported £50million valuation.

The Gunners expert also claimed West Ham are believed to be keen on the 25-year-old, alongside Crystal Palace, Fulham and Brighton.

“A possible price tag of £50million for Eddie Nketiah has been a big discussion point over the last week or so. I have to admit though, I’m a bit sceptical about that figure,” Watts said.

“Arsenal are open to offers for Nketiah and I’ve always felt like this will be the summer that he does leave the club.

“I struggle to see someone paying £50million for him though. That just feels a bit too high for me… I’ve not been told that the £50million figure is accurate.

“Nketiah is a decent player though and I do think Arsenal should be getting good money for him this summer.

“He’s still only 25 and he’s proven that he can score goals in the Premier League. He’s also improved his all round game massively under Mikel Arteta.

“He just needs to go and play regularly now. If he does that, I have no doubt that he can make a big impact somewhere.”

Watts added: “Crystal Palace are long-term admirers of the striker and he’s been close to going to Selhurst Park on more than one occasion in the last couple of years.

“Fulham, Brighton and West Ham are also believed to be interested.”

West Ham would be a good club for Nketiah

Nketiah has really kicked on in recent years, becoming a solid squad player under Arteta.

However, the “unbelievable” talent – in Gabriel Jesus’ words – has not been getting as much regular football as he would’ve liked, so a move elsewhere makes sense.

West Ham would be a good place for Nketiah to ply his trade. They’re in real serious of a new striker, so he should get regular football there.

They’re a solid top-half Premier League team who have enjoyed some great European adventures in recent years and will be eager to return to European competition next year.

In addition, the fact West Ham are in London means Nketiah wouldn’t have to move away to another city – and potentially uproot his family – for work.
