Report: Nottingham Forest want left-footer with £20m release clause, Barcelona and Emery also keen

Nottingham Forest will have scouts currently watching players all over the globe with the summer transfer window now in full swing.

The Reds have already added Elliot Anderson to their ranks for a fee in the region of £35 million.

More players will definitely follow the Newcastle man to the City Ground, although Nuno Espirito Santo will want to work with a smaller squad.

That could mean several players leaving the club too as the head coach looks to reshape his squad.

Now, it’s emerged that Forest are looking at a player currently making some waves at the Copa America taking place in the USA at the moment.

Nottingham Forest want Uruguay star Maximiliano Araujo

This is a link that has come out of the blue somewhat but it does feel as though summer is the one for a big move for Araujo.

According to Eduardo Borgos from Diario AS, Araujo is wanted by Barcelona, Forest and Aston Villa this summer and the player has a £20 million release clause.

The 24-year-old has made 59 appearances for Toluca in the Mexican top-flight and a player with his talent will surely move to Europe at some point.

His form for Uruguay has been good, making 11 appearances and scoring three goals for his country.

Araujo started the 1-0 win over USA on Monday as a left-winger but was stretchered off after just 27 minutes.

Uruguay have won all three of their games at the competition and are now through to the knockout stages.

Forest would get a real coup by signing Araujo

It still feels somewhat strange that Forest are being linked with players mentioned with moves to Barcelona – but that is where the club is at now.

Forest will be going for quality over quantity this summer and given that Espirito Santo wants a smaller squad that should bode well.

Araujo looks like a tough signing for Forest to get over the line this summer – but if they could, he’d be a really quality addition.

The player can operate anywhere on the left side and is comfortable as a wing-back, a left-back or even as a left-winger.

Right now, the Forest squad isn’t blessed with many left-footed options and Araujo would certainly enhance the Reds in that sense.
