Fabrizio Romano says West Ham are privately speaking about bidding for ‘incredible’ Arsenal target

West Ham United need a centre-back.

The Hammers are in the market for defensive reinforcements, and they’re not wasting any time in trying to get a deal done.

Indeed, a bid went in earlier this week for Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on Playback, the Hammers are now internally discussing putting in another bid for the French defender.

West Ham speaking about bidding again for Jean-Clair Todibo

Romano spoke about West Ham’s plans with Todibo and the idea of a second bid going in.

“It is true that West Ham made a bid for Jean-Clair Todibo, €35m, it was rejected and now West Ham are discussing internally if they want to return to Todibo with a new proposal,” Romano said.

Todibo signing won’t be easy

This is an ambitious move for West Ham to make, and, sadly, it may be a tad too ambitious.

Todibo is seen as one of Europe’s top defensive talents, and sadly, West Ham don’t often win the race to sign these kinds of players.

Some massive teams have been linked with a move for the ‘incredible’ defender as of late.

Manchester United are said to be very keen, but that is a very tricky deal to do due to UEFA’s rules on multi-club ownership, while Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing Todibo.

Of course, West Ham’s interest is the most concrete and the fact that they’re showing this level of ambition and drive to get the deal done could work in their favour.

If West Ham did manage to sign Todibo it would be something of a coup, and it would represent a great start to the Julen Lopetegui era.

Whether West Ham sign Todibo or someone else, new defensive additions feel inevitable, and this could be a very exciting summer transfer window for the east London outfit.
