Fabrizio Romano's £25m update is good news for Leeds United in bid to keep 'terrific' player - opinion

Leeds United are expected to sell a number of other players this summer after permanent exits for Marc Roca and Archie Gray, but they will want to keep Glen Kamara at Elland Road.

Roca has returned to Real Betis on a permanent basis, while Gray has been sold to Tottenham for £40m. Joe Rodon comes the other way in a separate £10m deal, leaving Leeds with Rodon and a £30m profit.

The sale of Gray puts Leeds in a stronger position when it comes to interest and potential bids in their other stars. One had to be sacrificed in order to rake in some cash and it turns out, Gray is that player.

We saw it earlier this week when reports said Brighton had an offer of £30m turned down for Georginio Rutter. But Rutter is not the only Leeds player that Brighton are interested in signing this summer.

Fabrizio Romano update is good news in bid to keep Glen Kamara

Brighton are said to have an interest in four Leeds players. Rutter is one, while talks have been held for Crysencio Summerville. The Seagulls are also said to be keeping tabs on Willy Gnonto and Kamara.

The latter only joined Leeds last summer from Rangers but played 42 times last season, providing Leeds with experience and consistency in midfield. That form has not gone unnoticed among Brighton’s board.

But Fabrizio Romano delivers an update and says that Brighton are closing in on the £25m signing of Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer. A holding midfield player, Wieffer has agreed a deal to join Brighton.

Brighton move is a boost but Rennes are pushing for Kamara

A move for Wieffer not only lessens Brighton’s need for a midfielder like Finland star Kamara, but it significantly reduces their transfer budget. It surely ends any potential interest they had in Kamara.

However, Leeds are not out of the woods yet as they look to keep the former Rangers, Dundee and Arsenal man. That is because Ligue 1 side Rennes are pushing hard to sign the Daniel Farke signing.

Some reports in France claim that Kamara is close to agreeing personal terms with Rennes as the French side eye the Leeds ace as a ‘priority’. But Brighton signing Wieffer certainly helps Leeds keep Kamara.
