Tottenham Hotspur misfit’s previous comments suggest West Ham United transfer would be ideal

Tottenham Hotspur need to offload some players this summer and may have actually found a perfect option for one misfit.

Ange Postecoglou wants new signings this summer and has added to his squad this week.

Archie Gray has arrived from Leeds United, joining Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner as Tottenham Hotspur’s summer additions.

More signings are bound to arrive this summer as Postecoglou prepares for life in the Europa League.

The Tottenham boss will also be looking for some departures though and we have already seen some fringe players move on.

Tanguy Ndombele’s contract has been ripped up, Joe Rodon has moved to Leeds United on a permanent basis and the likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga have been released.

Sergio Reguilon attracting West Ham United interest

There should be more departures to come though, especially with fringe players unlikely to feature under Postecoglou.

Djed Spence and Giovani Lo Celso spring to mind, and then we come to Sergio Reguilon.

The Spaniard was a big signing for Spurs back in 2020, arriving from Real Madrid to become Tottenham’s left back of the future.

Reguilon initially showed promise but has gradually fallen out of the plans, with his demise starting under Antonio Conte.

Reguilon was farmed out on loan to Atletico Madrid, then Manchester United, then Brentford… it has become clear that Reguilon simply has no future at the club.

Now returning to North London once again, Reguilon could end up joining a London rival.

AS claim that West Ham United are now interested in signing Reguilon, offering him an escape route from his Tottenham misery.

Reguilon move makes sense for all parties

The natural thought process may be to rule out dealing with West Ham.

There will be few Tottenham fans out there who would want to strengthen West Ham but Reguilon heading there just makes too much sense.

Firstly, Tottenham don’t want Reguilon; that much is clear.

Postecoglou has now loaned him out not once but twice and there is just no route back for him at Tottenham.

Spurs may not bring in huge cash for Reguilon but every little helps and getting him off the books has to be the priority – even if it means selling to a local rival in West Ham.

The move would also appeal to Reguilon; staying in London is one thing, but the chance to reunite with Julen Lopetegui is another.

Reguilon played 39 times under Reguilon at Sevilla, registering three goals and five assists to earn his move to Tottenham.

Speaking in 2020, Reguilon heaped praise on Lopetegui for being the most important manager he had played under in his career.

“I have much to thank the boss for. Not only now, but for my whole life,” said Reguilon. “He gave me confidence last season, but especially this season, he’s giving me the confidence to demonstrate what I can do. I know that he has a very special affection for me because I’m very young. I notice it in the way he treats me.”

“I know that he expects a lot of me and I try to give my all in each match. I have to give a special mention to him because he’s a coach that has defined my career,” he added.

Reguilon would surely jump at the chance to work under the new West Ham boss once again and that makes a deal seem very plausible this summer.

Tottenham may not love the idea of selling to a rival, but this one may be too good for all involved.
