£17m Crystal Palace target now decides to leave following reports of phone call with Oliver Glasner - Romano

One Crystal Palace target for this summer has just decided to leave his current club, Oliver Glasner will be keen to see him arrive.

So far this summer Oliver Glasner will love the work that Dougie Freedman has been doing in terms of arrivals to his squad which will be looking to better a 10th place finish this coming season.

He’s seen a favourite of his join the club in Daichi Kamada and also an impressive young talent in Chadi Riad. While he could also be getting Ryan Sessegnon if he impresses on trial at Copers Cope.

Impressive work from Freedman already, but he’s far from done with multiple positions still seemingly on the agenda this summer.

Now, contract news from Germany could suggest Palace are in with a good chance of signing another player Glasner is a huge fan of.

Maxence Lacroix decides to leave Wolfsburg

Heading into this summer, centre-half is clearly a position that requires some attention with Glasner’s preference to play a back three meaning defensive options are relatively short at the club.

This has been addressed to a degree with Riad arriving from Real Betis earlier in the window. But Riad is still just 21 years old and therefore isn’t exactly a ready-made starting option week in and week out.

This is where Maxence Lacroix comes into play, with the Frenchman being a favourite of Glasner and has now rejected a contract offer from Wolfsburg.

With just one year left on his contract, chances are that the Bundesliga side will decide to sell this summer with Palace a known option and have shown interest in a £17m move already since Glasner’s arrival.

In fact, amid earlier rumours, Lacroix actually admitted that he’d spoken with Glasner on the phone, something which could be a deciding factor if he chooses Palace this summer.

How does Lacroix compare to Palace’s other defenders?

Signing Lacroix would be a real coup for Palace as he is a brilliant defender and has the potential to be even better. When compared to the current Palace centre-backs, it’s easy to see Lacroix would fit right in.

Lacroix is a rapid defender who is excellent at defending higher up the pitch thanks to his recovery pace. This would make him a perfect player for Glasner.

That being said, he’s probably a defender who’d come in to replace Marc Guehi should he be sold this summer. However, if Palace intend to push the boat out and form a possibly world-class trio, Lacroix alongside Joachim Andersen and Guehi could be immense.
