The calendar has flipped to July. For fans of the NFL, it is the last month without football until March. With camps getting more intense as the season creeps ever closer. Veterans trying to keep their jobs, rookies trying to make their respective teams, football is almost back. Here’s is the July Edition of the Jacksonville Jaguars True or False.
The Punishment from the NFL will be Positive?
True. The Jaguars were one of three teams, along with the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, who were fined by the league for OTA violations last week. While it’s never a good thing to get ‘in trouble” for a team with a first-year head coach and a young team, any extra time together could never be a bad thing.
Deal Signed, Down to Business?
False. No. 1 overall pick, Trevor Lawrence, finally signed his rookie contract last week. His four-year deal is for $36.8 million, which includes a $24.1 million signing bonus, and a fifth-year option, as is the norm in rookie contracts. Lawrence has been recovering from labrum surgery in February on his non-throwing shoulder. While he has practiced, he has been avoiding contact including handoffs and snaps under center. His personal workout routine has ramped up, the Jaguars are going he’ll be all systems go when practice starts for real in the coming weeks.
They will Contend this Season?
False. The team will definitely win more than one game and may hover around the .500 mark throughout the season. However, here are just too many shiny new pieces to expect a playoff berth. Their division alone had a pair of playoff teams last season, with both of those teams tweaking their roster to return in 2021.

True. Hiring Urban Meyer was a big deal. Drafting Lawrence was even bigger. The signing of Tim Tebow to play tight end was more of a shock than big. But the signing that hasn’t been given enough hype is in the defensive secondary. The Jaguars signed former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who is coming off of a career-high in interceptions. He could be the corner that this defense has been missing since Jalen Ramsey clawed his way out of Jacksonville. Griffin hasn’t been known as a shutdown corner in his four seasons in the league. He tends to take risks, as he does have good instincts and can get to the ball, he gets burned when taking chances. A new location could see a new Griffin.
