The first all-wheel-drive, hybrid Corvette known as the 2024 C8 Corvette E-Ray has been expected for some time. And we here at MC&T have been able to report information regarding the E-Ray with exclusive details, well before Chevy wants you to know. Verifying our claims are recent sightings of the hybrid supercar, both over in Germany, and more recently closer to home in Colorado. Testing in states like Colorado means that Corvette has begun altitude testing the E-Ray to see how it performs where oxygen is harder to come by than at sea level.
2024 Corvette E-Ray: The AWD Hybrid C8
Several spy photos and videos have emerged recently as people spotted the Corvettes testing in Colorado, and thanks to Corvette Blogger, we’ve got easy access to the assortment of photos and videos that have appeared over the internet. The most interesting feature from these photos is a handle mounted to the vehicle’s hood, likely for easier access to the front motors in the frunk.
Additionally, one of the videos recorded by Kat Spears has her remarking at one of the vehicles as she states, “Is it just me, or is this thing not making any noise?” Indicating that we are looking at an electrified Corvette.
In the photos, we can see that the Corvette E-Ray features the Z06 widebody. But whereas the Z06 is expected to be a track star, the E-Ray will be poised to fill the position of a grand tourer, running silently at low speeds and with three-season tires. With the torque that comes with electrification and all-wheel-drive, ensuring a reduced loss in the vehicle’s grip, we know the E-Ray will be highly competent at high speeds. The Corvette E-Ray will continue to have a 6.2L LT2 V8 engine which produces 490-495 horsepower. But when combined with a small battery pack, the total output will likely be closer to 650 horsepower.
We also know that the C8 Corvette E-Ray will run a battery pack through the “spine” of the chassis and is paired with a “e-booster” front axle that is expected to add power and front grip off the line when the occasion calls for it. We also expect the E-Ray to act as a conventional hybrid, forgoing a charge port.
Look for the Corvette E-Ray to launch in 2023 as a 2024 model year product, just a year after the launch of the C8 Z06.
