HOONIGAN SHARES PROGRESS ON 1,000+ HP CAMARO Z/28 BUILD FOR 2021 SEMA SHOW

Just last week we saw a video of the Hoonigan team tasked with placing the biggest V8 big block crate engine from Chevrolet Performance to date, the 10.4L ZZ632, in a rather historic third gen Camaro Z/28 that’s served as a development mule, cradling a legendary 454 big block V8. With about 5 days until the 2021 SEMA Show, we get an update on the team’s progress, as they do an official “unboxing” of the 1,004 horsepower, Hellephant-fighting big block V8, along with installing the crate engine, transmission, and rear end.

If you saw the last video, you’d notice that the team wasn’t even given a ZZ632 crate engine, but rather a mock up display, cleverly disguised with 427 valve covers. That’s not the case anymore.

Some other notes of progress include installing a new cluster gauge that appears to be completely digital. They completed installation of their four link suspension system as well as installed coil over shocks to help manage the weight of the engine and vehicle overall. The team also hooked the engine and transmission up utilizing the Jerico four speed they referenced in the first video. The engine bay was painted (red) and thermo-shielding was added to the firewall to prevent any issues as the gigantic Chevrolet Performance ZZ632 big block V8 crate engine operates at temperature.

There are no wheels as of yet, however we do see massive drilled brakes and one of the Hoonigan holds up a big ole’ 305-section tire to the fender wall. It’s here that we catch a glimpse of what the stance of the big block Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 may look like. Should the team use the 305 tire, it will beat out the radical Hoonicorn Ford Mustang build, which rocks 295/35/18 Toyo tires.

This Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 build still has a way to go, including finishing the interior, installing wheels and tires, and getting the ZZ632 engine running before November 2nd when the 2021 SEMA Show officially kicks off. Give the latest Hoonigan video a watch to truly get a sense of what we’re all in for.
