GENERAL MOTORS CEO MARY BARRA SAYS THE CHEVY SILVERADO EV WILL BE "UNMATCHED"

The upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV will begin production in early 2023 and is expected to take the fight directly to the Ford F-150 Lightning, which is launching this spring. Meaning the Silverado EV (aka Silverado E) will have a lower price point than the Hummer EV. According to General Motors CEO Mary Barra, the Silverado EV will be “unmatched” despite the slew of electric pickup trucks coming to the market.

According to CNBC, Barra said that the electric Chevy Silverado EV will “educate people on what you can do with an electric truck when you have an electric truck platform.” Which could be a slight dig at Ford and the F-150 Lightning. However, despite Ford recently closing customer reservations after reaching 200,000 and being on pace to outsell GM this year in EVs, Barra stated she believes GM is the leader in EV technologies as well as self-driving features.

“For an OEM of scale, we’re first. Full stop. For start-ups that are only focused on one area, luxury segments, etc., those are obviously competitors that we treat very, very seriously, but when General Motors puts its scale, its highest loyalty in the United States across our brands, we have a lot of assets that we’re going to bring to the party.” Barra stated.

General Motors is certainly ramping up the hype for the Chevrolet Silverado EV (internally called Silverado E), which is scheduled to unveil at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) technology conference on January 5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. We know that the Silverado E will have 24-inch wheels on top trim levels, the largest wheel GM has ever confirmed on a truck. Chevrolet will also offer a fixed glass roof, which is meant to provide additional headroom, better visibility, and an enhanced riding experience for both front and rear passengers. This will be the first application of a fixed glass roof offered on a GM pickup within the full-size truck segment.

Estimated range on the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV is expected to be up to 400 miles. It will be built alongside the GMC Hummer EV and GMC Sierra EV at the GM Factory Zero Plant in Detroit-Hamtramck. Payload, towing, pricing, and trim levels remain TBA.
