Keith Urban is a country star, and that means he should be rocking a heavy duty lifted truck, right? Wrong. Originally an anniversary gift by his actress wife, Nicole Kidman, the Kiwi country singer has been in possession of a 1969 Ford Mustang since 2008, with the classic muscle car already being sent in for the restomod treatment once. However, it’s said that there was much left to be desired. So, for his birthday, Keith’s Mustang was overhauled once again, and was revealed at the Ford Performance booth during the 2021 SEMA Show, next to the all-electric Ford F-100 featuring the new Eluminator crate motor.
The Keith Urban 1969 Ford Mustang: Details
This renovated 1969 Ford Mustang isn’t just all show and no go. Powering the Keith Urban Mustang is a modern 5.0L Coyote engine attached to a 10R80 automatic transmission, just like today’s S550 Mustang, but goes on to add a Roush supercharger and custom Borla headers, with total output coming in at 700 horsepower.
One of the most eye-catching features aside from the paint job, are the wheels. Forgeline was inspired by the design of the S550 Mustang Mach 1, and applied a similar 18-inch wheel style to the Keith Urban Mustang, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Behind those are Wilwood 6 piston brakes up front, and 4 piston set in the rear. The undercarriage features front and rear subframes from Heidts, while also integrating an independent rear suspension system, and Bilstein dampers.
Inside, the Keith Urban Mustang was upgraded with new seats as well as heat and sound dampening materials. Lastly, the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer wanted a unique hue for his ride. With that in mind, PPG was able to come up with a custom color dubbed Mariana Blue, inspired by the Mariana Trench – a cavity in the ocean so deep it could swallow Mount Everest, with over a mile of depth still to spare. As such, the color is the darkest shade of blue before things go completely black. Santini Paint shop based in Westminster California was able to apply it with ease.
