The 2022 model year for the C8 Corvette has been an enormous success despite the assortment of setbacks it has had. The demand and sales for the mid-engined C8 have been fantastic. However, the chip shortage is still a significant hindrance to vehicle production, and as a result, another prominent feature of the 2022 C8 Corvette Stingray coupe and convertible has been removed in an effort to keep production going.
Earlier this month, Chevrolet dealers received the latest consensus deck outlining production and constraint updates for the remainder of the 2022 Corvette Stingray and the start of the 2023 Corvette production. The month of January saw an increase in Corvette production by an additional 60 units. According to Corvette Action Center, the Carbon Fiber Outside Mirror Covers and Carbon Fiber Grille inserts (3LT only) will be available for order once again on February 7th.
2022 C8 Corvette Stingray Constraints
Unfortunately, a lack of semiconductors has caused Chevrolet to remove the Rear Park assist feature starting January 24th. The 2022 Corvette system uses several semiconductors to increase safety and visibility for owners. As a result, Chevrolet has been required to rethink what components need to be altered or removed until the supply shortage issues are resolved. Customers who have already paid for the feature will receive a $50 credit as compensation for the inconvenience. However, Corvette plans to add the additional cut options in Q4 of 2022.
Additional features that have been cut from the 2022 Corvette Stingray over the model year have been the Engine Appearance and Lighting Package, carbon fiber elements, splash guards, and most recently, the High Wing Spoiler. However, according to the Corvette Forum, hype surrounds the 2023 Corvette as Chevrolet is expected to be prepared for bumps in the road from supply to production.
2023 Model Year Production
On March 24th, Chevrolet will start accepting 2023 Corvette orders from dealerships. Additionally, 146 dealers will be part of the 2023 Corvette Z06 Dealer Tour, where two pre-production Corvette Z06 models will cross the country and give potential customers a peek at the trim.
2022 Corvette production will end on May 6th, and the Bowling Green Assembly plant will begin building the 2023 Corvette on May 9th, 2022. Salable builds of the C8 Corvette Z06 are expected to start in the summer.
