FORD F-150 RATTLER DEBUTS TOMORROW

The Ford F-150 pickup truck already offers three – count ’em: three – off-road oriented packages/trim levels. It starts with the FX4 package, which is a mild-mannered upgrade that adds hill descent control, skid plates for vital areas, monotube off-road-tuned shock absorbers, and a Rock Crawl Mode. Up from there is the F-150 Tremor, which adds General Grabber AT tires, locking front and rear differentials, improved underbody protection, a suspension overhaul, front/rear tow hooks, and uniquely orange appearance upgrades. Then there’s the almighty Raptor; an off-road superiority pickup truck that needs no introduction. Now, starting tomorrow, there’s going to be a fourth model. Get ready for the Ford F-150 Rattler pickup truck, as teased by CEO Jim Farley.

Ford F-150 Rattler Teaser: The First Details

“Look out for this tomorrow. A rattler you’ll be excited to see on the trail. #FordF150 Rattler,” is all we get for now, glitzed with snake, mountain and truck emojis. There’s no hints of electrification here, which suggests that Rattler trim level won’t be designated for the upcoming F-150 Lightning.

In July of last year, the “Rattler” trademark from Ford Motor Company was discovered for motor land vehicles – pickup trucks in particular. This sent the blogosphere into a frenzy, assuming it was for the Maverick pickup truck, which was freshly revealed at the time. That could very well end up being the case someday. But whatever happens, it’s happening with the F-150 first.

The Rattler name has us recalling the nature of a rattlesnake, which slithers back and forth through the sand when it’s not coiled up under a shaded area waiting for field mice. Does this imply some sort of tail-happy truck that’s specialized for desert terrain? Is it the new name for the V8-powered Raptor R? Stay tuned tomorrow to know for sure.
