GMC NOW HAS 66,000 HUMMER EV RESERVATIONS

General Motors has received more than 66,000 reservations for its electric GMC Hummer pickup and SUVs – up from the 65,000 mark that’s already been reported on. As such, General Motors is attempting to expedite production of the vehicle to keep up with demand. Based on what the folks at GMC are saying, the reservation numbers are higher than they initially expected. The number of people converting their reservations into orders to buy the Hummer pickup is about 95 percent higher than expected. Moreover, as we were told from Assistant Marketing Manager Megan Hart during a Hummer EV presentation last week, only five percent of reservation holders have backed out, meaning almost all reservations so far of the $112,000 Hummer EV Edition 1 pickup have been converted into orders.

CNBC sat down with GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred to get a better understanding of the Hummer EV reservation process, as well as production for the 1,000 horsepower electric pickup truck. Aldred told the business outlet that production is “slightly ahead of plan” and that a plan is being hatched to expedite production further. While the Hummer EV pickup is for sale, new orders likely won’t be fulfilled until 2024 due to the number of current reservations they have. The SUV isn’t expected to arrive until 2023. By then, the EV3X, EV2X and EV2 trim levels for both the truck and SUV body styles should be in production.

Work to increase production means obtaining additional supplies for critical components for the vehicles, including battery cells.

As it stands, reservations for the electric Hummers have primarily been for the truck. However, newer reservations have been more evenly split between the truck and SUV, likely as more people become aware of the product. Additionally, March 2022 has been the best month for reservations for the GMC Hummer EV, aside from when the pickup truck was first revealed in the fall of 2020.

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 is a true flagship vehicle not only for the GMC brand, but for General Motors as a whole. With 1,000 horsepower and roughly 1,100 lb-ft of motor torque, the Hummer EV Edition 1 is the most powerful production vehicle the company has ever produced. And it’s the first GM vehicle to deliver the company’s new Ultium battery technology to customers.
