Someone has dreamed up a mid-engine Camaro and we want it to become a reality. So far the mid-engine architecture for GM has been seemingly exclusive to the Corvette Stingray and the upcoming 2023 Corvette Z06. Graphic designer Oscar Vargas shared his renderings of a mid-engine third-gen Camaro utilizing the mammoth ZZ632 crate engine, which displaces 10.4-liters and produces 1,004 horsepower without the need for a supercharger or turbocharger, or overhead cams, or direct injection. Good.
At first glance, it feels like Vargas took lots of inspiration from the third-generation Hoonigan Chevrolet Camaro ZZ632 concept that was on display at the 2021 SEMA Show. Except that engine conventionally saw the Big Block V8 in a traditional layout: right in the front. And while it’s not the first mid-engined Chevrolet Camaro design we’ve seen from the internet hive mind, it might just be our favorite. Not that GM is planning such a venture – there’s the C8 Corvette for that – but Mid-Engined American Muscle does seem to roll off the tongue quite nicely.
This isn’t the first render we have fantasized about becoming a reality. Vargas, also known as Wb.artist20 on Instagram, has shared his vision for a military grade GMC Hummer EV that had us hopeful of a real world application. Months after that mockup, GM Defense announced it was going to produce prototype light reconnaissance vehicles using the Hummer EV as its base. Perhaps the precedent has been set, then? If only.
Continuing to play with everybody’s imaginations, Vargas has a list of concept vehicles we are still wondering about including a Dodge Charger TRX, a modern Maverick Muscle car and an F-150 Raptor SUV to name a few.
