CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV RESERVATIONS REACH 140,000

The EV truck market is on the rise with the arrival of the Rivian R1T, GMC Hummer EV, and Ford F-150 Lightning. With Ford now closing the books on the F-150 Lightning to fulfill current reservations, people are turning to the Chevrolet Silverado EV to get their electric trucks which have seen reservations rise to epic proportions. Earlier this year, Chevrolet fully reserved all of its first-edition Silverado EV trucks within 12 minutes of its launch.

Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV Reservations Climb

Per GM’s Q1 2022 earnings report, the automaker has now tallied over 140,000 reservations for the Chevrolet Silverado EV, with the GMC Hummer EV family surpassing 70,000 reservations. Combined, the GM electric trucks are closing the gap on Ford F-150 Lightning reservations, and that’s before the GMC Sierra EV debuts, and opens up another stream of bookings.

Ford stopped taking new orders for the F-150 Lightning when it had topped 250,000 reservations, and all trim levels are essentially spoken for. Production of the anticipated truck has officially begun. While the Hummer EV beat the Ford to market, the 1,000 hp truck is a niche six-figure product, and the Silverado EV isn’t out until next year, and that’s just the fleet-only truck. The retail versions won’t be available until 2024 based on the current timeline.

The Silverado EV will sell for just $39,900 for the Work Truck (WT) model, but the price for the electric truck can increase substantially and reach $105,000 for the First-Edition models. The WT will feature 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the RST models will have 664 ponies and over 780 lb-ft of torque, which is, needless to say, a lot. In addition, towing capacity is expected to be around 20,000 lbs when paired with the Max Tow Package, and the range of the vehicle could reach up to a GM-estimated 400 miles before the charge is fully depleted.
