Stimulus Checks From Iowa: Hundreds Of Workers To Get $700

The federal government may be done sending stimulus checks, but states and cities are continuing to send targeted payments to residents. West Liberty, Iowa is the latest city planning to send stimulus checks to residents. The stimulus checks from Iowa will amount to $700. The money will go to workers who were excluded from the federal stimulus check program.

Who Will Get The Stimulus Checks From Iowa?

Last week, council members in West Liberty voted to move ahead with the plan to distribute stimulus money to about 200 residents. Although the council members have approved the plan, it still needs to be formally announced. A formal resolution on the proposal is expected to come by June 21.

The stimulus checks from Iowa will go to the workers who weren’t eligible for the federal stimulus checks. This means immigrant workers will get stimulus checks from Iowa once the formal proposal is approved. As of now, it isn’t clear when the workers will get their checks.

Some council members feel that $700 isn’t enough and that workers in the city should get about $1,400. These council members plan to continue campaigning for a higher stimulus amount. The city will use about $147,000 in American Rescue Plan funds to send the stimulus checks.

Once the proposal is formally approved, the latest stimulus checks from Iowa could prove extremely helpful for workers, especially with inflation reaching record highs. According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, the inflation rate in May reached 8.6%, the highest since December 1981.

Residents In These Two States To Get Money This Month

Meanwhile, residents of two other states, Maine and Mexico, will be getting stimulus checks this month.

In Maine, eligible residents who filed their 2021 state income tax returns will get $850 stimulus checks. To be eligible for the payment, residents must have filed their return by October 31 and not be claimed as a dependent by someone else on their tax return.

Moreover, their federal adjusted gross income should be less than $100,000 for single filers, $150,000 for a head of household, and $200,000 for couples filing jointly. About 858,000 residents are estimated to receive the stimulus checks from Maine. The state will continue to send the payments until the end of the year.

New Mexico will also be sending tax rebates this month. Eligible single filers will get a payment of $250, while joint filers will get $500. Eligible residents need not submit an application to get the tax rebate. Rather, all residents who filed their tax return by May 31 will receive the rebate automatically.
