The Ford F-150 Raptor R wonderfully defies everything around it at the present. With the economy on shaky ground, inflation spiking and hey, maybe a little WWIII on the way, there’s a lot to think about outside the auto industry. And yet we here at MC&T couldn’t be more excited about this super truck. It stands as a competitive answer to the Ram 1500 TRX, and arguably the GMC Hummer EV, so it makes sense that comparisons were immediately drawn by both the public and the press.
The Ford Raptor R puts out an even 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque thanks to its 5.2L supercharged V8 Predator engine. That same engine can be found in the S550 Shelby Mustang GT500. The Ram 1500 TRX on the other hand sports a supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 capable of 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be found in the Dodge SRT Hellcat muscle cars. In terms of pure horsepower, the Ram 1500 TRX barely edges out the F-150 Raptor R. But in terms of both engine power density and power-to-weight, the scales tip to the favor of the Ford.

When Carbuzz asked Ford on Twitter why the Raptor R puts out only 700 horsepower and not 703, why not make one more pony than the Ram 1500 TRX for the sake of bragging rights, a Ford spokesperson, Mike Levine replied. He said “Why? It’s 700 hp and hundreds of pounds lighter than a TRX. Let them brag about their +225 lbs/hp advantage.”
He has a point. The Ram 1500 TRX comes in at 6,439 pounds while the Raptor R weighs in at just under the 6,000 pound mark (5,950). The Raptor R is nearly 500 pounds lighter than the Ram 1500 TRX. That being the case, an official 0-60 time has yet to be established for the Raptor R, however it may be a safe assumption that the Ford F-150 Raptor R will post a significantly faster time than its heavier rival. Expect more stats on the Raptor R to show up in the coming months.
