"SCARY FAST" FORD F-150 RAPTOR R WILL DEBUT ON JULY 18

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been covering an assortment of leaks and glimpses of the upcoming Ford F-150 Raptor R, gradually increasing the hype for the truck that could be well on its way to topple the Ram TRX in the horsepower war. Ford has even been kind enough to show off a prototype in front of some journalists at the Bronco Raptor drive program in June, which only helps fuel the excitement.

Ford F-150 Raptor R: What To Expect

Ford recently published a movie-style poster image on Instagram that reveals the F-150 Raptor R’s debut date scheduled for July 18, 2022. The “movie” is titled “Scary Fast” and will enable people to “experience a new kind of fast” this summer. July 18 is just a few days away, and we’ll finally see the not-so-secret supercharged 5.2L V8 engine under the truck’s hood. The “Predator” engine comes from the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which makes 760 horsepower in that application. It’s hard to say if the output will be the same on the Raptor R, but if it’s anywhere close to the Mustang, it’ll quickly overtake the Ram TRX.

It’s hard to say what transmission is connected to the potent engine for the Raptor R. Some believe that it could be the same 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox found in the Shelby. This speculation is due to the quick shifts the Raptor R has been caught making. However, a recent leak points at a P702 Transmission with a new torque converter, turbine dampener, and better 10R80. Still a 10-speed, the upgrades enable the upcoming “scary fast” truck to shift faster, even quicker than the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Based on the spy photos we’ve seen for the Ford F-150 Raptor R, outside of some R badging, the truck looks almost identical to the standard Raptor, which means this truck could be a bit of a sleeper. Production volume is likely to be more limited, however. Watch this space on July 18th for everything you’ll need to know on the upcoming F-150 Raptor R super truck.
