The last time we heard about the Tesla Cybertruck was earlier this year when Tesla removed all mentions of pricing and took away the ability to configure the Cybertruck on its website. But new updates were given during Tesla’s Cyber Roundup Annual Meeting of Stockholders that took place earlier this week. The video of the entire event is just below.
Tesla Cybertruck: Updates On Pricing And Production
During a Q&A session with CEO Elon Musk, it was confirmed that unanticipated inflation would drive up the starting price from the initially promised $39,900 number, and that’s not going to be the only detail to change. Musk also stated that the specs will be different for the truck, which isn’t surprising since it was unveiled in 2019, and a lot has changed since then. Tesla’s original reservation fee was $99, but that’s now subject to change. Given that its been three years, this isn’t all that surprising.
The Tesla Cybertruck was initially priced at $39,900 for the Single Motor RWD version, $49,900 for Dual Motor AWD, and $69,900 for Tri-Motor AWD, with deliveries expected to start in 2021. The company is now targeting mid-2023 for production, though with all the delays that have taken place so far, it won’t be surprising if they don’t reach that.
Many early comparisons were drawn between Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 Lightning, but now all of those assumptions can be thrown out the window. With a starting MSRP of $39,974, the Lightning Pro will undercut the Cybertruck on pricing, and so will the Chevrolet Silverado EV WT with its $39,900 starting price.
Tesla promised that there would be a 2.9-second 0-60 mph time, 250+ kW charging speeds, and 500 miles of range. But it’s unclear how many of these promises will be realized in the final product. So, for now, we’ll have to wait and see if Tesla can meet its mid-2023 timeline for production and deliveries to see what promises they can keep for the Cybertruck.
