25,000 NAMES COLLECTED FOR UPCOMING FORD MUSTANG BLACKOUT PACKAGE

Ford is holding a naming submission contest for its new blacked-out appearance package coming to the S550 Mustang, because “Black Accent Package” is so extremely boring that we almost fell asleep typing it out.

Over 25,000 name suggestions were submitted through social media, with most fitting the convention of something dark, followed by some kind of horse. Hmm, we wonder if there’s something in there already that we’re missing…

Some of the latest suggestions for this S550 Ford Mustang black accent package are Nite Pony, Shadow Stallion, Alastor, and Shadowmare. We’re sure that NightMare has already been suggested 1,000 times, but we’re guessing that’s probably a bit too aggressive for an appearance package that doesn’t include any performance upgrades.

Other suggestions shared by people on Twitter include Lunaris, Engulf, Obsidian, Ronin, and Stealth. Submissions for the package are now closed, and Ford will pick a winner closer to the reveal date for the package. Our personal favorite was “Marauder.”

Unless people really fall in love with Ford Mustang “Nite Pony,” the package will likely be called Dark Horse, as Ford has already filed for a trademark in both the United States and Europe. It’s unclear whether the package will appear solely on the standard sports car version of the Mustang, or the Mach-E SUV as well.

Blacked-out exterior packages are all the rage these days, with most manufacturers offering at least one vehicle with it. Hell, even Toyota offers the Camry in a blacked-out package, so why shouldn’t the Ford Mustang jump on the bandwagon? The real question is if this will bring buyers into the showrooms for the S550 one last time, as the S650 is barely a month away from being revealed.

Whatever it’s called, expect the package to turn all the lights out on the Mustang, removing all chrome and shiny bits from the exterior and possibly even the interior. Magpies need not apply.
