GM DESIGN SHARES EARLY SKETCHES OF 2023 CHEVROLET COLORADO

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado has been made official, and there’s plenty of details to pour over in regard to this exciting new midsize truck. And not just the engineering stuff, either. Over on the GM Design Instagram page, we can see the many forms that the Colorado took on before arriving at the final form.

Most of the drawings are variations on a basic theme, but we can see how big changes in the design phase went into the small details that make up the final design, such as the vertical grille idea that found itself on the ZR2, and the bottom-teeth look of the front fascia that informs the Z71.

The interior of the Colorado looks to be almost identical to the sketches, showing how focused the team was from the very beginning.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is expected to arrive early next year and will have a laundry list of trims including the high-performance ZR2, as well as the Z71, Trail Boss, LT, and WT. The ZR2 will also have an additional Desert Boss Special Edition package.

Within the 200 new accessories coming to the 2023 Colorado family at launch, Chevrolet has more than doubled its off-road accessory options from the current model year. Now, the count is within the ballpark of around 20 off-road-oriented accessories for the truck. The decision to add to the customization is undoubtedly influenced by the current market and the high demand for off-road adventures.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado also debuts a new stowable tailgate, which is standard on the ZR2 and is an available option on all other models. The system is the segment’s first built-in tailgate storage solution which offers secure and watertight storage. When the tailgate is down, the lockable lid opens to a 45-inch-wide (1,143 mm) and 4-inch deep (101 mm) compartment with a drain, making it great for a cooler. Placing items you might not wish to get exposed to the elements but don’t wish to have inside your truck is possible, as the storage is said to be watertight.

Here’s the caveat: officials at Chevrolet have relayed to MC&T that there currently aren’t plants to offer the Multi-Flex tailgate that we see on the Silverado at this time, so as far as multi-functional tailgates go, this is all the new Colorado has to offer.

Pricing will be announced for the Colorado at a later date, with more details to follow.
