We suspected the all-new E-Ray Corvette would be coming with all-wheel drive capability. We also knew that it would share similar looks and output to the 2023 Z06. We didn’t know how addicting watching the E-Ray take on an autocross course would be. A new video from our friend EddieX on Instagram shares a cockpit view from an E-Ray taking on a road course on Black Lake located at the GM Milford Proving Grounds.
It’s difficult to watch this new video only once. Not only is the interior aesthetically pleasing, but the sound of the LT2 V8 coupled with the front wheel drive motors spooling up on acceleration are a thing of beauty to behold. The E-Ray is truly one of a kind, and its only real direct competition comes in the form of an all-wheel drive Porsche 911 4S which only puts out 443 horsepower, isn’t a hybrid, and costs nearly $30,000 more. In contrast, the E-Ray will carry a starting price tag of a more modest $104,295 USD.
The Corvette E-Ray is the very first hybrid and all-wheel drive Corvette in the vehicle’s 70-year history. In fact, the first Corvette originally debuted at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City 70 years to the day that Chevy premiered the E-Ray – January 17th.
The spaceship sounds heard in the video video are the two front wheels powered by a 1.9 kWh battery pack. The battery pack, located in the spine of the vehicle provides 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque alone. All in all, the E-Ray produces 655 horsepower and 595 lb-ft of torque. To put that in perspective, the 2023 Corvette Z06 puts out 670 horsepower and only 460 lb-ft of torque. As for the tires, the Z06 has the superior performance summers in the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R, while the Corvette E-Ray has a three-season Pilot Sport 4S, like the Stingray.
