RAM REVOLUTION ELECTRIC TRUCK NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE COMBUSTION ENGINES

We got our first look at the 2024 Ram 1500 BEV Revolution with the concept that debuted at CES 2023, and while it’s a high-tech truck, many won’t like the idea of being forced into buying an electric vehicle. Luckily, fans of the internal combustion engine can rejoice as it looks like Ram won’t be replacing its internal combustion engine (ICE) truck lineup with the RAM EV Revolution, at least, until they can no longer get away with it.

Ram EV Revolution And Ram ICE Built Side By Side: Details

Ram brand CEO Mike Koval recently spoke with Road and Track about the electric truck, and it turns out that despite all the news surrounding Ram going electric, don’t expect the brand to give up on internal combustion quite yet. Koval clarified that he doesn’t have plans to phase out the current in-market offerings and will sell the BEV alongside the time-tested products. This should help retain affordability for middle-class buyers while also meeting the performance needs currently not matched by electric vehicles; for example, towing, payload, and range.

Since many Ram buyers use their trucks to help them with their livelihood, the EVs need to retain these attributes, and many Ram buyers that have participated in surveys conducted by the brand have said they’re open to EVs if they can tow. But, sadly, Electric trucks don’t meet those performance aspects that people have come to rely on with ICE trucks. Luckily, we may see hydrogen fill this slot in the future, but for the time being, gasoline and diesel reign supreme.

Once the Ram 1500 BEV arrives in 2024, we can expect the lineup to populate with familiar offerings. In addition, the company intends to build an electric truck aimed at fleet customers similar to the current Tradesman offerings and a suite of luxury and off-road-oriented products. Koval even hinted at an electric TRX. With Ram building EVs and ICEs together, they hope to retain the current customer base while allowing first-time buyers to be introduced to the brand, no matter what type of vehicle they are looking to purchase. We’re happy to hear that the brand is taking on this strategy. Hopefully, they’ll sell enough EVs to reach federal emission quotas to employ this strategy for as long as possible.
