The pursuit of relevancy can make us all do crazy things. One C8 Stingray owner decided to prove that you can take your car on a flight and land safely in doing so. And sure, the Corvette withstood the test, but this is by no means recommended by anybody.
Maybe if Chevrolet made a true rival to the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX people wouldn’t be out here jumping Corvettes.

The video from Mike Hyssong, AKA “Street Speed 717” (who gained notoriety by jumping a Ram TRX to the attention of the local DNR), shows him piloting a Rapid Blue C8 Corvette Stingray in a familiar field . The vehicle wasn’t as pristine as a regular airliner coming down for a landing from the clouds though, it was filthy. The pictures showed a dirty floorboard, dusty and mud soaked engine bay, front splitter and tires of course, however all systems were said to be in normal operating condition post flight.
It goes without saying that the C8 Corvette is the wrong tool for the job in this case. like using box cutter for a task that requires a hammer. Powered by a 6.2L LT2 V8, the Corvette Stingray Z51 produces 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and can move 0-60 in just under 3-seconds (2.9-seconds) and post a quarter mile time of 11.2-seconds. Up until fairly recently, people had a hard time getting any more performance out of the Stingray in a reliable fashion, mostly due to an encrypted ECU that does its best to keep tuners out of calibrating the engine. However, three years later, and the aftermarket has found a solution.
