As every college football fan knows, Nick Saban announced earlier this month he was stepping down as the Tide's head football coach. His retiring didn't come as a huge surprise to most fans. He's 72 years old. What else does he have to prove? In his four college head coaching stops (Toledo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama) he amassed an amazing seven national championships (one with LSU and six at 'Bama) and a stunning 292-71-1 college coaching record. His leaving created a domino effect that will continue to impact the careers of a great many college coaches and college football players. Saba...

As of October 28th, Nebraska had a 5-3 record including a 31-14 win over Purdue that day. All the Huskers needed for bowl eligibility was just one more win in the final four games of the season. Easy peasy, right? As fate would have it, NU lost its next three games setting up a must win home game with Iowa on Black Friday. Win the dang game and the Huskers were going bowling for the first time since 2016. Late in that game, NU looked as if it might end seven years of frustration. With under a minute to go in the game and the score tied at 10, NU got what it needed: an interception that put NU ...

Matt Rhule spoke excitedly at his signing day press conference Wednesday about the four quarterbacks in the Huskers' QB room. Then news broke that Chubba Purdy (probably the slight favorite to start game 1 next year) will be transferring. Adam Carriker analyzes why Purdy is leaving, looks at the players currently in Nebraska's QB room, and examines whether the Huskers should look at a transfer portal QB and if there are any good options out there at this point. Maybe a former Husker QB? • Carriker Chroncles on YouTube• Carriker Chronicles website

Iowa's interception in the final half-minute led to the Hawkeyes' walk-off field goal Friday and another bowl-less postseason for Nebraska football. Dr. Rob Zatechka breaks down the play and explains why Chubba Purdy probably failed to see the Iowa defender who made the easy interception.

The biggest news from Tuesday's Nebraska football press conference had nothing to do with Friday's game against Iowa — except perhaps for the Senior Walk that will precede it. Defensive lineman Ty Robinson told reporters he has decided to return for a sixth year at Nebraska. Robinson said he made the decision Sunday after talking it over with his coaches. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound junior said he believes an additional season will help him "sharpen some tools and skills" in his pursuit of an NFL career. "I put a lot of thought into it," Robinson said. "I was out last winter and spring with an inj...

On a cool November evening in Madison, the Wisconsin Badgers scored in overtime and held off the Nebraska Cornhuskers 24-17 for their 10 th win in a row against the visitors. Nebraska hasn’t won in Madison in 57 years. The game marked the Huskers fourth one-possession loss this season and their third in a row in their attempt to get bowl-eligible. Nebraska has now lost seven straight overtime games and it was the second overtime loss in their past four trips to Wisconsin (also in 2016). When Nebraska gets into OT, they don’t just lose, they become inept. In their last six overtime losses, they...

Husker fans are still buzzing over what many consider a terrible call late in last Saturday's game with Maryland. Because of that play and the continued ineffective play by the Husker QBs, there also have been calls for the dismissal of first year Husker Offensive Coordinator, Marcus Satterfield. I've already opined on the RPO play Rhule/Satterfield called on third and goal with about three minutes to go in the game. The score was tied at 10. Instead of playing it safe with a run, Husker third string QB Chubba Purdy was given a run/pass option. Maybe Rhule and/or Satterfield should have told P...

As expected, there was no announcement Thursday about who will start at quarterback Saturday night for Nebraska against Wisconsin. Haarberg, who injured an ankle last week in the Maryland game, has been limited this week but will test the ankle at full speed in practice Friday, head coach Matt Rhule said. "He'll definitely be available in some capacity, but whether he starts or not depends on how he feels on game day," Rhule said after Thursday morning's practice in his final pregame availability with the media. "He definitely wants to play," Rhule said. "He's pushing to come back and play." B...

Matt Rhule called quarterback Jeff Sims "the total package" during the offseason. Rhule may have to re-evaluate his QB options after two games, as Jeff Sims has struggled mightily, turning the ball over three times per contest. Nebraska has a talented QB room with young, highly touted, award-winning high school quarterbacks. Adam considers the Huskers' options at the position in this episode of the Carriker Chronicles.
