The biggest news from Tuesday's Nebraska football press conference had nothing to do with Friday's game against Iowa — except perhaps for the Senior Walk that will precede it. Defensive lineman Ty Robinson told reporters he has decided to return for a sixth year at Nebraska. Robinson said he made the decision Sunday after talking it over with his coaches. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound junior said he believes an additional season will help him "sharpen some tools and skills" in his pursuit of an NFL career. "I put a lot of thought into it," Robinson said. "I was out last winter and spring with an inj...

Suddenly minus three starters on the offensive line, Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield isn't bringing out the crying towel. "I'm good with where we're going up front," Satterfield said after Tuesday morning's practice. "We'll be just fine as long as we stay healthy with who we've got up there right now. We'll continue to be physical. We'll continue to run the football." Head coach Matt Rhule announced Monday that Turner Corcoran and Ethan Piper had suffered season-ending injuries. Also, Nouredin Nouili will miss Saturday's game against Purdue at the very least. "We got good you...

How did Nebraska stop Illinois on a fourth-and-goal play from just inches away from the goal line? Dr. Rob Zatechka chalks it up to "amazing individual effort by a handful of guys," including Ty Robinson, MJ Sherman and especially true freshman Riley Van Poppel.

The Nebraska football season is almost here. Proof came Friday with the first "game week" press conference and the release of the first depth chart of 2023. Coach Matt Rhule and half a dozen players previewed the Aug. 31 opener at Minnesota, a Thursday night affair that's just six days away. The press conference came the morning after the Huskers held a simulated game under the lights in Memorial Stadium. Rhule said he hoped the scrimmage would essentially serve as Game 1 when it comes to the old coaching adage that a team's greatest improvement comes between the first and second games. Placek...

There were injury updates, news of a suspension and more as preseason camp kicked of Monday morning for coach Matt Rhule's first Nebraska football squad. Rhule said after practice that safety Myles Farmer was suspended before camp and is not the 120-man camp roster. The suspension was "just for simple things, nothing major," Rhule said. "Just some of our standards." Asked when Farmer might return to the team, Rhule said "we'll see." "It's just kind of day-by-day," Rhule said. "I love Myles. He's a competitive kid. It's so hard when you have a new coach and they have different standards than yo...

As Nebraska headed into spring ball, the defensive line was probably the position group I had the most concern over. As I pointed out in my recruiting recap in February, in five recruiting classes, the previous Nebraska football staff signed a total of 11 players to play on the D-line. The majority of them were projects who eventually flamed out. Three more of them — Mosai Newsom, Marquis Black and Jailen Weaver — left the team in early December. Their attrition is insignificant, but it was the graduation of Devin Drew and the decision by Colton Feist to bypass using his final season of eligib...

Nebraska’s defense got off to a solid start in second half against Wisconsin The plays we draw up on the Centris Federal Credit Union Doc's Diagnosis aren't always the sexiest or the biggest. Sometimes you have to look at the little things in little plays. Today is a perfect example of that. On the first play of the third quarter Saturday against Wisconsin, the Nebraska defense holds the Badgers to a one-yard gain. Remember the little things. Dr. Rob Zatechka shows you some good blocking by Colton Feist and some speed by Ty Robinson that helped stop the play dead in its tracks. Get your Husker...

Mickey Joseph: ‘We embrace playing in a hostile environment’ Mickey Joseph says Nebraska will need solid play in all three phases Saturday night at Purdue, where he expects a more hostile environment than what the Huskers faced last week at Rutgers. "I think the boys did a great job at Rutgers with the so-called sellout crowd," the Huskers' interim head football coach said Tuesday. "...We hope Purdue has a sellout because at the end of the day we embrace playing in a hostile environment. You know, chaos, we embrace that. Controlled chaos, we embrace that in the kids. That really gets their foc...

Frost and players meet the press as Nebraska-Oklahoma game week arrives Coach Scott Frost said Monday that Oklahoma's speed will pose a challenge Saturday when his Huskers take on the Sooners in Norman. When looking at OU game footage, "the speed just popped out right away," Frost said. "Every position." Offensive lineman Turner Corcoran said one message from Frost during Monday's practice was that "these guys are fast. We’ve gotta play faster.” As for the Huskers' struggles to establish a running game, he said Buffalo on Saturday "had the box packed, so that made it a little tough." But he sa...
