Wide receiver Zavier Betts has left the Nebraska football team for a second time. Head coach Matt Rhule disclosed the news after Saturday’s scrimmage, the Huskers’ 12th practice of preseason camp. “He came to me and said, ‘Hey, coach, my heart’s not in it,’” Rhule said. Betts played in 18 games in 2020 and 2021, starting six of them, but left the team in 2022 before being welcomed back by the new coaching staff over the winter. “What we ask people to do is hard,” Rhule said. “If their heart’s not in it, we certainly understand. ... He’s a guy that I love and I care about, and I hope he finds w...

Nebraska's struggles building up its wide receiver room have been well chronicled. Even with the transfer portal, it's not something that can be rectified in one offseason. Thanks to six new additions from the 2023 recruiting class, the numbers are getting better, but proven top-end talent is still lacking for the most part. The team lost three receivers to the portal after spring ball, with junior Alante Brown's attrition coming as a bit of a blow. Brown left the team in February, but the door had been open for a possible return. Instead, a week before the Red-White game, Brown put his name i...

Betts and McCaffrey Move On from Nebraska Last week, I wrote about Husker WR Zavier Betts leaving the Husker football program. He left the team and may never play football again. Or maybe he could enter the transfer portal and play football somewhere else this fall. Or he might even come back to Nebraska. Who knows? The reason for his departure? Some say he was burned out. He's had it with playing football. And that's okay. My hope is that all players who decide to leave the Husker football program go on to lead happy, productive lives however they choose. Some of you (and you know who you are...

Zavier Says Goodbye To The Huskers *__My\! People Come and go so quickly here\!__*Dorothy Gale, "The Wizard Of Oz" Husker fans should know by now that through the past four years, there has been a revolving door of football players coming into and leaving the Husker football program. Here's just a partial list who have left the Husker program during Frost's tenure: QBs Noah Vedral and Luke McCaffrey, RBs Greg Bell, Jaylin Bradley, Sevion Morrison, Marvin Scott III and Mo Washington. The receivers departures have included JD Spielman, Wan'Dale Robinson and Kade Warner. The entire list of player...

Run the damn ball. Read the first sentence again. In honor of Saturday's win against Northwestern and the clinic our running backs and Adrian Martinez put on, I decided to share this video from Mr. Pipeline himself, Milt Tenopir. In the clip above, Uncle Milt discusses "Smash-Mouth" football and why the fans fell in love with it so long ago. When I was a wee boy, "Run The Damn Ball" wasn't just something your aggressive cousin drunkenly yelled at the TV in the garage. It was also our identity. We took pride in being a fourth-quarter team. We loved watching Warren Sapp suck air from a mask on t...
