The Tesla Cybertruck is expected to enter production this summer. As the days tick by, we learn more and more about what to expect by the time they start rolling off the assembly floor. While SpaceX-Twitter-Tesla CEO Elon Musk has updated that the Cybertruck won’t really be mass produced until 2024, they should see the light of day sooner than later. With a supposed production model spied testing in California and a new patent filed recently, it might be safe to assume the Cybertruck is actually getting close to making good on its word this time.

The Cybertruck, which debuted in 2019 has gone through a tumultuous production timeline, including an embarrassing and now notorious demo of what was supposed to be considered shatterproof glass. Nevertheless the Cybertruck project rolls on. A recent tweet from What’s Inside? showed what appeared to be a Tesla Cybertruck with a tonneau cover. There are current prototypes without a cover so chances are this could be a production model.
The cover itself is expected to be retractable and able to withstand a human being standing on top of it, without giving way. The expected integration of solar panels is yet to be discovered however. Either they will be a late model add-on implemented in the cover itself or roll off the assembly floor with them on the roof, either way Tesla mentions the solar panels would warrant an extra 15 miles of range per day.
New Metal Patent Filed
Another promising occurrence in the Tesla Cybertrucks timeline is the new patent filing of a “super steel.” The metal is expected to come in sheets and then stamped into the shape of what would serve as the exoskeleton for the Cybertruck. The metal itself according to the patent is to be composed of a few different steel alloys and provide both an indestructible shell for the truck that would also be corrosion resistant without the use of a paint coating. Elon Musk is famous for revealing an update to the Cybertruck during Tesla quarterly meetings, so an official update should be along shortly.
