EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: GMC CANYON AT4X AEV EDITION TEASED

The golden age of the off road pickup truck and SUV continues. And GMC is grabbing this opportunity by the horns with everything its got. For example, MC&T was fortunate enough to attend the 2023 GMC Canyon drive program in North Carolina last weekend, complete with both the Denali and AT4X trim levels. As if that wasn’t enough, GMC went ahead and showed off the first-ever 2024 Sierra HD AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition. And, on the trailer pulled by the Sierra HD AEV Edition, was the next chapter in the Canyon’s story. It’s our first official look at the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, and we got as close to it as we could.

Now, it should be noted that nobody at GMC was calling it the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, but with sibling brand Chevrolet showing off an official teaser image of the upcoming 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison last week, you can bet with certainty that this is the GMC equivalent.

If you’ve been reading MC&T for a while, you may recall that we first broke the news that GM was already prepping both a next-gen Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison, as well as a first-ever GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. This means that these midsize trucks will exclusively feature off-road protection hardware from American Expedition Vehicles, straight from the factory. This would include a unique front and rear bumper, hot stamped boron steel skid plates, a set of AEV Salta wheels, and perhaps a few surprises.

What’s noticeable right away is the set of 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires that are a size improvement over the 33-inch spec found on the standard AT4X. This would also mean changes to the suspension system. This would include a lifted ride height, and a set of long travel Multimatic DSSV dampers to accomodate more suspension travel and articulation. A quick peak under the body of the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition (pictured below) seems to reveal exactly that.

Lastly, something that the GMC is teasing that hasn’t been shown on the new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison just yet, is a bed-mounted sport rack and spare-tire carrier. Whether or not that’s standard or optional remains to be seen. But you can bet that you’ll be able to read all about it here at MC&T as soon as more details on this exciting new midsize truck come to light.
