C8 CORVETTE Z06 GETS SMOKED BY PORSCHE 911 TURBO S IN BRAKING TEST

The C8 Corvette Z06 was built to take the fight directly to Porsche. The car is seriously competitive, especially with the Z07 package equipped. Tests have shown that the Corvette Z06 is capable of beating the Porsche 911 GT3 on the same track with the same tires, which is nothing to scoff at. However, a more recent test by Car & Driver takes things to the extreme as it makes the cars race from 0 to 150 mph and then back to 0, testing how quickly the cars can accelerate and then come back to a complete stop, which is all quite important.

C8 Corvette Z06 vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S 0-150-0 Test

Unfortunately, while the C8 Corvette Z06 is capable of beating the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 the Porsche 911 Turbo S is a different story. That said, it didn’t do horrible either, as out of all 12 cars that were tested, it still finished in second, beating the likes of the Toyota GR Supra 3.0, Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Bentley Continental GT Speed, Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Let’s crunch the numbers. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing accelerated from 0-150 mph and back to a complete stop in just 24.7 seconds, which is pretty amazing if you think about it; following that, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was just a few milliseconds behind the Blackwing with a total time of 24.4 seconds. Finally, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 managed to take the test in just 22.5 seconds, showing off the glory of the LT6 engine, coupled with the exquisite transmission aerodynamics, and we can’t forget about the brakes. Lastly, the Porsche 911 Turbo S smoked the likes of all the cars within the test with an overall time of 19.3 seconds, which is just absurdly fast, but considering that it has a price tag of over $250,000, we’d like to think its outstanding performance justifies that a little bit.

It would have been quite the black eye for Porsche if the Z06, which is half the price, out-did it in this braking test. However, a better comparison to the Porsche 911 Turbo S is likely the upcoming C8 Corvette ZR1, which is also going to be turbocharged.
