N.J. man dies, passenger injured in Salem County car crash

A South Jersey man died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle car crash that also severely injured his passenger, authorities said.

Jonathan Sandoval, 29, of Millville, was traveling southbound on Route 77 in Upper Pittsgrove Township in Salem County when his Chevrolet struck a pole, New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair said.

Police responded to the crash around 2:02 a.m. near milepost 10.1.

Investigators said Sandoval lost control over his car at the time of the crash, McNair said. A cause was unknown Wednesday.

A 26-year-old passenger from Bridgeton sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, police said. An update on his condition was not available.
