'One of the best': Roberto Martinez says 25-year-old striker Arsenal reportedly want has been unreal this season

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has been seriously impressed by a striker Arsenal want to sign in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Gunners are pushing hard to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season. They have a solid squad capable of beating any team in the world on their day, but many feel there’s a missing piece in their puzzle – a prolific striker.

It is almost a guarantee that Arsenal will try and sign a new centre-forward in the next window. They desperately need one to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool on all fronts.

A striker Arsenal have been heavily linked with has now been described by Martinez as ‘one of the best signings’ in Europe in last summer’s transfer window.

Roberto Martinez impressed by Arsenal striker target

Roberto Martinez is now the manager of Portugal, and he is preparing his side for the Euros this summer.

The Spaniard is a very good manager. He has had the experience of managing a number of incredible players, and he knows a good talent when he sees one.

While watching games in Portugal this season, one player seems to have caught Martinez’s eye – Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international is having the season of his life. He is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe right now, and he has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Gyokeres, 25, only joined Sporting last summer, from Championship side Coventry City. Many felt it was a solid signing, but nobody would’ve expected him to become this good.

Martinez thinks he has been one of the best!

The Portugal boss said in his press conference, as per the Metro: “For me, he was one of the best signings in the entire European market last summer.

“It is fantastic for him to be playing in Portuguese football.”

Viktor Gyokeres’ numbers compared to Arsenal’s attackers

Arsenal have a fantastic attack, and one of the best things about them is that everybody contributes.

Bukayo Saka is the main man for the Gunners, having scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions this season.

A number of players have directly contributed to over 10 goals as well – Martin Odegaard (16); Gabriel Martinelli, Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus (13); Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard (12).

That has worked out for Arsenal so far, but imagine if they had a striker who would outshine everyone else?! Viktor Gyokeres could be that man.

The Swede, since the start of this season, has directly contributed to 50 goals – scored 36 and assisted 14. That is an outrageous return, and it is no surprise that Arsenal are interested in his services.
