'Devastating' £30m forward has just scored hat-trick for his country as Spurs reportedly lead race to sign him

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a great season for the most part this term, but there’s still a fair bit of work to do.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have certainly improved since the dismal 2022/23 campaign in which they finished eighth in the Premier League table.

As Guglielmo Vicario recently said, this season is a starting point for a new Tottenham, and despite the occasional bad display and result, things are on the right track.

Spurs were busy in both the summer transfer window and the January market. Indeed, they were one of the few Premier League sides that did considerable business at the start of the year.

And this summer, more attacking reinforcements could well be on the cards for Tottenham, who will not only need more quality, but also strength in depth if they make it into Europe.

One player said to be on the Spurs radar is Genoa and Iceland forward Albert Gudmundsson, who is shining for both club and country.

Indeed, the 26-year-old scored a hat-trick, including a stunning free kick, to help his nation reach their Euro 2024 playoff final.

Gudmundsson’s Iceland were up against Israel in their semi-final, a game in which the hosts took the lead through Eran Zahavi through a 31st-minute penalty.

The reported Tottenham target equalised eight minutes later through an ‘absolute beauty’ of a free kick from 25 yards out, over the wall and into the top corner.

Viaplay Sports UK shared the goal on their X account, as seen below.

Arnor Traustason made it 2-1 for the visitors in the 42nd minute, and Iceland never looked back from then on.

Indeed, Gudmundsson got two more goals in the latter stages of the game – on 83 and 87 minutes – to make totally sure of victory.

Back in February, Calciomercato reported that Spurs are above all of the ‘devastating£30million man’s other suitors in pursuit of his signature.

Tottenham may well want to get a move on if they really want to sign him. There’s a good chance Iceland will make it to Euro 2024, and he’ll then be firmly in the shop window.
