'Too far': Newcastle can't afford to sign 'extraordinary' player, he's likely to join Real Madrid - journalist

Newcastle United are constantly looking for players with huge potential, and that will be no different as they search for a centre-back this summer.

Signing a central defender is now essential following Sven Botman‘s injury, although it was always on the agenda for a Newcastle United team who are nowhere near as solid as they were last season.

The Magpies will likely want to sign someone young, with the idea that they will be Botman’s long-term partner at the back at St James’ Park. That is why someone like Giorgio Scalvini could be a good option.

The Italian looks destined to go incredibly far in the game, which is why he would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle United this summer. However, there are some talents who will be beyond the Magpies.

Newcastle United unlikely to sign Antonio Silva or Leny Yoro

That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke about Newcastle United’s quest to sign a new centre-back this summer.

He recently told Geordie Boot Boys that he thinks Ousmane Diomande could be an option, but he believes the likes of Antonio Silva and Leny Yoro will be out of reach for Toon officials.

“The best young one in Europe for me is Antonio Silva,” he said.

“But I don’t think Newcastle are in the market for him. He’s a bit too far. He’s like a Rolls Royce, that boy.

“Leny Yoro as well, I think he’s out of Newcastle’s range too, because he’ll probably go to Real Madrid.”

How much Lille want for ‘extraordinary’ Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro currently plays for Lille in Ligue 1, which is where Newcastle United got Sven Botman from in 2022.

But Bailey believes that the 18-year-old, who has been called ‘extraordinary‘ by Paulo Fonseca, is destined for even greater things.

The teenager is being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, who are also showing an interest in Toon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

It could end up being a very expensive summer for Los Blancos, as it has been claimed that Lille want a fee of around £60million for Yoro.

Newcastle were linked with Antonio Silva last summer

As for Silva, the 20-year-old Benfica defender was on Newcastle United’s radar last summer when they were searching for a centre-back.

However, a deal was always unlikely given the Portuguese youngster’s price tag. He was valued at £85million by Benfica, which would have made him the Magpies’ most expensive signing ever.

Now Silva is a year older and wiser, and is probably even more out of reach for a Newcastle team who are going to sign a centre-back this summer.
