Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move to sign a Serie A midfielder who Xabi Alonso is a huge fan of.

The newspaper has claimed that one of Koopmeiners’ ‘biggest fans’ is none other than Xabi Alonso, who could well be the next Liverpool manager.
The report further claims that Atalanta are ready to start negotiations to sell Koopmeiners at around £51 million (€60m).

Liverpool’s priority in last summer’s transfer window was their midfield, and they invested a lot of money to strengthen that area of the pitch.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were all signed by Jurgen Klopp to join the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Thiago Alcantara.
You may wonder why Liverpool are being linked with Teun Koopmeiners now, but the Dutchman, who has been likened to Toni Kroos, is outshining every single one of the above players in one key stat – goals.
Koopmeiners, who has played in all three central midfield positions this season, has scored 12 goals in all competitions. No Liverpool midfielder can match that record.
Szoboszlai is the Reds’ highest-scoring midfielder this term with seven goals, while both Mac Allister and Jones have five each. Elliott, Gravenberch and Endo have scored a combined total of eight goals.
