5 memorable moments of Danny Rohl's Sheffield Wednesday tenure as Sunderland take interest

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has become the subject of interest from Championship rivals Sunderland.

It’s been a whirlwind few months for Rohl.

He landed the Sheffield Wednesday job in October at the second time of applying, reaplcing the winless Xisco Munoz.

Sheffield Wednesday had no hope before Rohl arrive. But now, the Owls have become a really potent attacking side who continue to put points on the board.

Five wins in eight has left Wednesday just a point from safety with eight games to go, but Rohl’s fine work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

It’s reported that Sunderland are interested in hiring Rohl this summer.

As the Football League’s youngest boss continues his rise in the dugout, we look at his X most memorable moments at Sheffield Wednesday so far…

Danny Rohl’s first win at Sheffield Wednesday

It took until game week 14 for Sheffield Wednesday to earn their first win of the season.

But it took Rohl just three games to get his first win in charge, claiming a huge three points at home vs South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Former Millers striker Michael Smith netted a first half brace in a 2-0 win that day.

Bailey Cadamarteri’s first goal

There were plenty of cries for Munoz to introduce Bailey Cadamarteri during his struggles in charge, but he was reluctant to do so.

Rohl though would quickly bring Cadamarteri into the fold and in his second start, Cadamarteri scored his first professional goal for Sheffield Wednesday in a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

That win kick-started a positive run of form through December and unearthed a top talent in the process.

Dramatic Leicester City equaliser

Cadamarteri made his full league debut against Leicester City in the game before that win over Blackburn Rovers.

Nobody gave the Owls a chance against the Foxes who were the runaway leaders in the Championship at that time, with Wednesday going into that game on the back of three-straight defeats.

But this draw was arguably what kick-started all that is positive about Rohl and Wednesday, with Jeff Hendrick coming off the bench to salvage a late draw under the Hillsborough lights.

Sheffield Wednesday win in front of Hansi Flick

Rohl arguably learned all he knows about management and coaching from Hansi Flick.

Rohl worked under Flick at both Bayern Munich and with the German national side, with the German heading to Sheffield earlier this month to watch his apprentice in action.

And the players ensured Rohl got a win in front of Flick, beating Plymouth Argyle 1-0.

Ian Poveda deadline day arrival

January was a crucial month for the Owls.

They desperately needed new players in and their business went right down to the wire.

But since, it’s proved to be a very effective window for Sheffield Wednesday who signed James Beadle, Ike Ugbo, and Ian Poveda, who are all key players now.

Poveda joined at the very last minute and has since given Sheffield Wednesday a bit of magic that they didn’t have before, with a picture of Rohl and Poveda on deadline day bringing a huge sigh of relief to fans and surely Rohl himself.
