Thilo Kehrer's stats at Monaco will blow West Ham fans' minds

Thilo Kehrer left West Ham United to join Monaco on loan in the January transfer window, and his stats with the Ligue 1 outfit have been quite something.

German defender Thilo Kehrer struggled to establish at West Ham, but his stats with Monaco prove that he’s actually a very good player.

Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 27-year-old to the London Stadium from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022 for around £13 million.

However, he was often the target for criticism from the West Ham fans, although he did recently suggest that he was never played in his best position during his time in East London – centre-back.

Kehrer was mostly used as a right-back by Moyes, and his lack of positional awareness and poor concentration levels cost us on numerous occasions.

The Schalke academy product made FIVE errors leading to goals for the opposition inside his first four months at the London Stadium!

The 27-year-old defender did enjoy one very special moment with West Ham – his memorable performance for the Hammers was when he came on as a 62nd minute substitute for us in the Europa Conference League final back in June of last year.

It’s a real shame that we didn’t see more of that version of Kehrer during his time with the club, and it now seems like he’s fulfilling his potential out in France…

Thilo Kehrer stats will blow West Ham fans’ minds

The German has been making some serious waves with Monaco during the second half of the season.

It really has been like chalk and cheese for the former PSG defender since he swapped the East End of London for the principality.

In eight Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco so far this season, Kehrer has averaged 2.1 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 3.6 clearances and 1.4 successful aerial duels (Who Scored). During those games, his team have only lost twice.

Now, compare those statistics to his numbers with West Ham during the first half of the season. He averaged 0.3 tackles, 0 interceptions, 0 clearances and 0.3 successful aerial duels per match in the Premier League.

Ok, so you might be saying, ‘well he only played four league games for us this season’. So let’s take a look at his numbers from the 2022/23 campaign…

In 27 Premier League outings, Kehrer averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 2.7 clearances and 1.3 successful aerial duels per game. So you can see that he has improved immeasurably in every single category.

The Germany international’s passing has improved as well. Last season with the Hammers, he managed 36.8 passes per game in the league, and recorded a completion rate of 85.4%. And now with Monaco, not only has he made more passes on average per match (60) than he did with West Ham, but he’s improved his completion rate as well (87.3%).

The Thilo Kehrer stats during his time with Monaco will surely impress the Hammers fans. He looks like a different player over in France.

However, the only caveat is that Ligue 1 is a completely different kettle of fish to the Premier League, so maybe he’s just better suited to French football, what with its slower pace of play and inferior levels of physicality.
