'Looked comfortable': Chile's national media deliver verdict on Ben Brereton-Diaz's performance this weekend

Sheffield United striker Ben Brereton-Diaz was among a number of Blades players out on international duty over the weekend.

The Villarreal loanee has made a big impression since arriving at Bramall Lane but has been injured recently, much to the disappointment ofChris Wilder.

However, he is now back in action and after a good hour or so against Bournemouth before the international break, Brereton-Diaz got another call by Chile.

The striker was a sub as they hammered Albania 3-0 on Friday night. But he did come on with around 20 minutes to go and managed to have an impact, setting up the third goal.

The Chilean media, then, seem happy enough with the Sheffield United man’s performance.

Chile’s media react to Ben Brereton-Diaz’s performance against Albania

Brereton-Diaz is well-liked among the South American fans and has been a regular feature for Chile for a while now.

And after his 20 minute cameo against Albania, it seems ‘BBD’ impressed once again.

“He was nominated on an emergency basis, but became Gareca’s second choice. He came on for Eduardo Vargas. He almost scored a goal and set up Dávila in the 3-0 win. It has to be,” AS wrote.

“Came on as a 9 for Vargas. He was able to assist Dávila in the 3-0 win. He looked comfortable in attack. He unloaded well from the first time for Bolados’ goal,” TNT Chile wrote.

Key to any sort of hope for Sheffield United

It was a real shame to see Brereton-Diaz become yet another injured player at the club. He’d started really well and we had a genuine threat up top when he was playing.

Hopefully, this little cameo is a sign he is working his way back to full fitness. With the season coming towards its conclusion, it’s imperative United win a few games and get a bit of feel-good factor back among the club and the supporters.

To do that, we need our best players available and Brereton-Diaz is one of those.

George Baldock was another in action this weekend for Greece. The right-back was lauded by the Greek media as well, as they won 5-0 against Kazakhstan.
