'I would be surprised': Journalist suggests 'fantastic' £7m Wolves player won't be sold this summer

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa is a player who has been linked with a move away from Molineux in recent times – and a fresh update has now emerged about the star.

It has been a mixed bag of a season so far for Sa.

The 30-year-old was questioned earlier in the campaign and was struggling to find consistency.

Just of late though, Sa has really impressed between the sticks, having really solid outings against Fulham in the Premier League and then Coventry City in the FA Cup. Even though Wolves did lose that game, he made several big saves to keep Wolves in the contest.

Given it is the international break, there has been some talk about what Wolves could do this summer with regards to their squad.

In the eyes of one journalist, Sa is probably not going anywhere…

According to journalist Steve Madeley, Wolves are probably going to be keeping hold of Jose Sa this summer.

He took questions from fans and responded when someone asked if the one-cap Portugal international could be sold.

He said in The Athletic: “I would be surprised, but I guess nothing will be off the table. Wolves’ No 1 will have three years left on his contract at the end of the season, which would make him quite costly. And yes, he does make mistakes sometimes, but if I look around other clubs outside the ‘Big Six’, I don’t see too many goalkeepers better than Sa.”

Sa, of course, signed a new contract at Wolves back in September 2023, indicating the club were very happy with him.

It has since been suggested that Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is a fan of Sa, and is nowhere near as keen to make a change to the position as his predecessor Julen Lopetegui was.

Wolves have to at least hear offers

At the moment, it is looking as though Wolves aren’t going to make any changes this summer regarding the goalkeeper position.

Sa, a £7 million buy from Olympiacos, is undeniably a great shot-stopper with really fast reflexes.

But question marks remain over his distribution, and he can sometimes make very rash decisions and put his teammates under unnecessary pressure.

It would just make sense for Wolves to listen to offers. That does not necessarily mean actively trying to sell him, but just considering any bids that come in.

Sa did reportedly have some interest from Saudi Arabia last year and certainly if a huge bif arrives from one of their clubs then Wolves would be fools not to at least consider it.

He’s a great goalkeeper, but not someone who should be deemed indispensable.
