How Nottingham Forest feel about the points deduction being increased after appeal lodged - journalist

Nottingham Forest have now appealed their four-point deduction after breaching financial fair play rules – and TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has been explaining how the club feel.

Just 48 hours after Forest had drawn with Luton before the international break the news came from the Premier League. Forest were deducted four points and plunged into the relegation zone.

Forest are now a point adrift of safety in the Premier League. Once domestic football returns, the Reds face Crystal Palace and Fulham on home soil and both feel like massive games.

It’s been another haphazard season from a Forest perspective. No club has conceded more goals from set pieces than the Reds and 22 points have also been dropped from winning positions during 2023/24.

Alex Crook explains how Forest are feeling about their appeal

Well, it was the news that the fans had been waiting for and yesterday it was announced that an appeal had been made. Everton did the same earlier in the season and saw a 10-point reduction go down to six.

Now, Alex Crook from TalkSPORT has taken to X to discuss how Forest are feeling internally. He said: “No surprise #NFFC have decided to appeal. Mentioned on TalkSPORT last week that I’d been told they would. Also told they are confident the points deduction will not be increased even if they are unsuccessful.”

Forest will now have their case looked at again by another independent panel. At the end of that process, the club will discover whether or not they have grounds to receive any of their points back.

With the gap between Forest and Luton so minimal, even if it was a single point back, it would be enough to take the club out of the relegation zone at the moment.

No-brainer for Forest over FFP charge

In our view, this does make sense. However, we hope that assurances have been given that the likelihood of the deduction being increased is extremely slim.

If Forest do get the punishment increased, it’s fair to say there will be big trouble. It’s bad enough that the club have dropped into the relegation zone and there is some serious work to do on the pitch.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been linked with the sack this week.Maurizio Sarri has been mentioned as the next Forest manager but he’s already turned down a three-year contract.

Now, the talking about FFP must stop and football has to take centre stage. Forest can ill-afford any more setbacks – particularly at home – and they will just have to wait and see what happens with the appeal process.
