‘Waiting to see’: Chelsea seeing if they can sign ‘brilliant’ striker this summer, FFP may stop them – Romano

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea are evaluating if they have the finances available to make one big signing this summer.

He told Caught Offside that he believes the Blues a wary of their current situation regarding FFP before they make any big-money moves.

It has been widely reported that a striker is top of the list for Chelsea if they want to strengthen their side this summer.

One name who has been frequently mentioned to be at the top of their list is Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Chelsea interested in ‘brilliant’ Osimhen

Theirinterest stems back a number of months now, with him coming into this campaign as one of the best strikers in Europe.

Described as ‘brilliant’ by Gary Linekar, he has already made a big statement in European football.

While he has not quite reached those heights this time around, he is still easily one of the most in demand players in his position ahead of this summer.

Chelsea worried about FFP for Osimhen

It is expected that he will be on the move, and Romano has said Chelsea are firmly in the race to sign him, providing the finances line up with what they need them to be.

He said: “I think Chelsea will be there. The interest is still there. It is really important to understand what is happening; first of all with the FFP situation because Chelsea do not want to overpay, so it is important to know how much the package is going to be for Victor Osimhen.

“We already know about the release clause between €120m-€130m with Napoli so Chelsea and other clubs are waiting to see if Napoli can be flexible but usually with their president, De Laurentiis, it is usually very tough to go there and negotiate, especially for a fantastic player like Victor Osimhen.

“It will then be important to see how much Osimhen wants in terms of salary and his contract. So there are some crucial financial points to sort out before Chelsea can say ‘ok’ and go for Osimhen.”

The Blues have a couple of other names high up on their list when it comes to signing a striker.

It has been claimed that Viktor Gyokeres is a player they have been scouting for a number of months now, frequently attending games to watch him recently.

Another player who has been linked with a slightly lower fee attached is Benjamin Sesko, who is currently starting regularly for RB Leipzig.
