Zero goals in 2024… The one signing Chelsea absolutely have to avoid this summer - opinion

Chelsea have already been linked to a number of big signings ahead of the transfer window opening again.

Coming off the back of a lavish first two years of spending under new owner of Todd Boehly, it is not rare to see their name mentioned in the conversation ahead of a big player moving clubs.

Chelsea want a new striker

This has continued to happen this year, with reports stating that they are keen to sign a new striker in the summer.

With true talent in this position is at a premium, there is a reason why huge price tags are being thrown around in reports.

It has even been discussed that the club would have to spend close to a record fee for them in order to bring in a player they want in the position they desire.

One name who has frequently been mentioned is Evan Ferguson, currently playing his football at Brighton.

Chelsea should avoid signing Ferguson

The youngster turned a number of heads earlier this season, however looking into his form in 2024 would provide a different story.

The Republic of Ireland International is yet to find the net in this calendar, and this is despite playing a number of minutes for Brighton in multiple competitions.

It’s fair to say he doesn’t start every game for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, however his minutes certainly warrant more output.

The main problem Chelsea found with the strikers recently is the pure lack of finding the net regular basis.

This is why although Nicolas Jackson has impressed for the majority of his first season at Stamford Bridge, there is still talk of an upgrade in the works.

However, Ferguson has now shown enough to suggest it should be him, and instead the Blues should look elsewhere.

They have been linked with the signing of both Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, and their pedigree in European football should send them in that direction instead.
