'I've seen': Ivan Toney shares what he's noticed about Man United star Kobbie Mainoo over the last week

Kobbie Mainoo will be feeling on top of the world as he returns to Manchester United from England duty after winning the Man of the Match award against Belgium – and Ivan Toney is impressed.

Having made his debut and won his first cap in the 1-0 loss to Brazil, Mainoo was given a start alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in midfield on Tuesday night. He lasted just over 70 minutes last night.

It is incredible to think that the 18-year-old has broken into the England squad and now looks destined for a place at Euro 2024 – having only played 23 times at senior level for Manchester United this season.

Mainoo was exceptional against Belgium. It was his turn in transition that created the first goal, feeding Jude Bellingham who slid in Toney – to win a penalty. Toney got up to send Matz Sels the wrong way.

Ivan Toney impressed by Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo

A number of quick turns, some dribbles forward past players with the ball and even coming close to scoring in the second half – Mainoo enjoyed a debut to remember. It might have won his Euro 2024 place.

Jude Bellingham was full of praise for the Manchester United man but was quick not to add fuel to the fire, insisting Mainoo needs to keep going. Joe Cole could not get enough of Mainoo, in his analysis.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw – in which Bellingham scored with almost the last kick of the game – Toney told BeIN Sports that he has been impressed with Mainoo’s demeanour over the last week with England.

“He carries himself very well. A strong young man. I’ve seen his football ability – hence he is playing for England. A top talent, I am sure he will go right to the top if he keeps his head down and works hard.”

What must Kobbie Mainoo do now, to ensure Euro 2024 place?

What Mainoo must do now, is remain first choice at Manchester United from now until the end of the season. Get another 10 starts, from the remaining 10 league games, under his belt and show his quality.

The chances of him starting all 10 remains to be seen with Erik ten Hag renowned for his desire to chop and change players. Bt as longu has gets the chance to impress, then Mainoo must continue to take it.

But right now, given the lack of options England have in the middle of the park, you would back Mainoo gets a ticket for Euro 2024 – given his full debut against Brazil at Wembley on Tuesday night.
