Matt Piper issues bold Leicester City prediction ahead of Championship run-in

Leicester City have been dragged back into the chasing back after a worrying run of form in the Championship.

Enzo Maresca‘s side were well clear at the summit a few weeks ago but now find themselves in second place, having dropped points in four of their last five games.

Whilst The Foxes were in FA Cup action against Chelsea just before the international break, Leeds United defeated Millwall 2-0 to climb to the top of the table for the first time this season.

Admittedly, Leicester have a game in hand on their promotion rival and they must make that advantage count.

With nine games of the gruelling campaign remaining, it promises to be a close-fought promotion race, with Southampton down in fourth still with every chance of a top-two finish.

Despite a concerning period, particularly with the ongoing PSR charge, former Leicester City winger Matt Piper remains hopeful.

The Foxes have been pretty faultless this term but that air of invincibility has completely evaporated in recent weeks and many are tipping them to finish below Leeds.

Though, speaking on the BBC Radio Leicester When You’re Smiling podcast, Piper made a pretty bold prediction: “We’re not a club that enjoys front running. We’re not. I think you’ll see the fans now, King Power will be bouncing, it will be raucous.

“We’re known as the underdogs and that’s how we’re best suited. Being second place now on goal difference, with these last nine games, with all this stuff hanging over us, we’re going to come and we’re going to fight, I’m sure of it.

“We’re going to win every single last game. I really do believe that this team can do that.

Indeed, if City were to win all of their remaining fixtures, it would see them go up as title-winners on 109 points, which would break Reading’s record total of 106.

It’s certainly a daring prediction from the BBC pundit, but one that Maresca’s side are without doubt capable of achieving, as they’ve shown already.

Enzo Maresca must find a winning formula

Leicester have already been on a run of nine wins in a row this term, so there’s no reason that can’t be replicated.

Maresca just needs to find that winning formula again, and perhaps that means a return to the side for Kelechi Iheanacho.

In the absence of Vardy, who simply won’t be able to play every game, Iheanacho would provide a more clinical edge up top.

Whilst Patson Daka has enjoyed a productive run in the team, he has been profligate and missed a sitter away at Leeds last month.

Iheanacho deserves another shot.
