March Town United moved a step closer to cementing their spot in the play-offs last night while battling Wisbech Town secured a late point to continue their good form at home.
The Hares moved up a place to fourth in the United Counties Premier Division South standings with a 4-0 win at Eynesbury while the Fenmen held promotion-chasing Skegness Town to a 1-1 draw at Fountain Fresh Park.
Joe Rider scored twice for March and Craig Gillies and Matt Foy were also on target as the Hares leapfrogged St Neots into fourth spot in the table.
Ash Taylor's side need just two more points to guarantee their place in the play-offs heading into their away fixtures at Bugbrooke St.Michaels on Saturday and Yaxley on Monday.
In the UCL Premier Division North, there was late drama as Amir Ward netted an injury-time equaliser against Skegness.
The visitors had the former Wisbech management team of Leon Mettam and Lee Brooks in their squad.
Fenmen boss Alex Street was delighted with his side's display.
Street said: "We're notorious for starting slowly and we were missing four potential starters tonight so we had to adapt and change formation and I thought we started slowly.
"I thought the first 20 minutes we didn't get the grips of the back three and got caught square, got front on.
"They sort of pinned us back and we knew what they were going to be like, they're a big bunch of bullies who play long ball and throw it down your throat.
"They're not a pretty side, but they do it well. They've got good men and they've got players who have played the level for a long period and that's why they've been successful this year.
"Once my lads got to grips with it I thought they did well. Max (Matless) started heading the ball properly further at the pitch, which pinned them back and I thought we had the better chances first half.
"Dan (Roberts) probably should have scored at the back post. It was a great ball in and a great header but the goalkeeper has made a good save.
"Harley (Murkin) had a chance where the keeper has made another good save. We could have come in probably 2-1 up from the two good chances we had.
"A draw is probably a fair result in the end. They've missed a penalty and hit the woodwork but what I will say is my lads dug deep.
"I said in my interview on Saturday that they had something to play for on the play-off front and we've got nothing in the league apart from a cup final for players trying to cement a place.
"I thought we were brilliant really. We dug in, just kept ticking away and my lads have got good quality.
"Once they start believing they can create chances and Amir's hit that shot at the end, the water on the pitch and the hardness of it as well has helped it zip through.
"I thought we were as excellent. I don't think either side can probably argue too much. They can argue about time added on, this, that and the other but I think a draw is a fair result.
"I thought that second half of that first half period, those 25 minutes I thought was excellent.
"We dominated the game, moved the ball around well and put some great balls in."
The Wisbech boss feels his side have started to turn a corner.
"I think that's five or six unbeaten at home and we're looking hard to beat and we've also had two away games before tonight where we've gone away and picked points, which we haven't done all season," said Street.
"Those young lads out there are fighting for us and they're fighting for the club and they're not a million miles off.
"They're a good group of lads, they're believing in themselves and they're believing in their quality.
"It's just about making sure that we get them the help or I get them the help.
"If some of them are here next year hopefully we we can keep progressing them because they're working hard for this football club and no one out there can complain about their work rate or endeavour.
"They've got a good bond and good togetherness and 10 or 12 games ago, we'd have easily just rolled over and let Skegness take a 1-0 win there so I'm pleased with the last few weeks.
"There was no Michael Frew there, no Jon Challinor, no Sam Murphy and no Harry Twite. I've always said it's a squad game and It's not just about the 11 on the pitch."
