'He had everything': Ledley King says Arsenal had a top player he always feared going up against

Tottenham Hotspur icon Ledley King was one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League in his prime.

However, the Spurs coach has now revealed that there was one Arsenal player who he really didn’t like playing against.

King, speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast, says the Gunners star in question was one of those players he felt could really embarrass him.

It’ll probably come as no surprise that the Tottenham cult hero was speaking about Thierry Henry.

The Arsenal icon was so often the tormentor of many an opposing Premier League back line.

What has Spurs icon Ledley King said about Arsenal legend Thierry Henry?

King went as far as to say he felt Henry was “the best striker” in the Premier League and “had everything”.

“Henry was the best striker for me in the Premier League,” said the Spurs cult hero.

When asked why he felt this, the Spurs icon said: “He drifts all over the pitch. Out there on the left wing, you can’t go out there.

“When he comes inside, gets a head of steam, he’s dribbling, that’s a problem for you. Could run in behind you, skilful, strong, he had everything.

“He was the one player, the one striker, I felt could embarrass me if I have an off day. Other than that, didn’t really feel like that (about anyone else).”

Henry really was the highest-calibre forward in his prime, and Arsenal fans were treated to many superb displays from the Frenchman.

The 46-year-old clocked up 337 competitive appearances for the Gunners, registering 228 goals and 103 assists for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Henry lifted two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal, also winning the Premier League Golden Boot four times in red and white.

The fact King, a Spurs icon and one of the best English defenders of his day, speaks so highly about Henry is testament to how highly rated he is amongst his peers.
