It will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that a goalkeeper will be on the radar for Nottingham Forest this summer when the transfer window reopens.
The Reds have been through three this season. Matz Sels signed in January and is the current number one, with Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos also making appearances.
Now, another is being sought in the form of Athletico Paranaense stopper Bento. The Brazilian made his debut for Brazil against England at the weekend and might now be on the move.
Forest have had some success with the transfer market in South America. Murillo and Danilo have both been regulars in the team at different periods of this season and they’re now planning to raid another Brazilian club.
Nottingham Forest watch Bento in action for Brazil
The 24-year-old was called upon at Wembley at the weekend with Brazil missing regular goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Ederson through injury, capping his debut with a clean sheet.
Now, according to Globo Esporte, Forest and Wolves were in attendance at Wembley to watch the player ahead of a potential move for him in the summer.
Forest will look to try and move on either Turner or Vlachodimos this summer. In fairness, both could actually leave and that prospect wouldn’t be surprising.
Sels has done nothing wrong and having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, he would be ideal to compete for the gloves at Forest next season.
Bento, it’s fair to say would likely represent an upgrade on the current options at Forest. According to Squawka, he made more saves last season than Turner, Sels and Vlachodimos combined during 2023/24, with 104 from 33 outings.
Who is Brazil goalkeeper Bento?
Well, he’s a goalkeeper who is respected highly enough by Brazil for him to be considered the third choice behind world-class stars Alisson and Ederson for starts.
The goalkeeper has only ever played for Athletico Paranaense, coming through the youth academy with the club.
Since stepping up and grasping the gloves at first-team level, Bento has made 148 appearances for the club he called his own and kept 50 clean sheets during that time.
A move to Europe could be on the cards, however, and that would surely help the player when it comes to more appearances for the Brazilian national team.
Who Scored makes interesting claims about Bento. They suggest that his main strengths are penalty saving and concentration, with long passing noted down as a particular weakness.
Bento won’t come cheap to Forest. His current club have already turned down offers of £12 million and it might take closer to £20 million to prise him away in the summer.
